Practical information
Conference Venue
The conference will be held at the Finlandia Hall (Mannerheimintie
13). The venue is centrally located in park-like
surroundings and is very easy to reach by walk or tram. For

Conference Language
The official language of the conference is English. There
will be a few parallel sessions in Finnish.
Travelling to Helsinki
- Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is approximately 20 km from
the city centre
- Around 120 international flights arrive daily at the
airport
- Ferries from Stockholm (Sweden) operate overnight to
terminals at the South Harbour (less than 1 km from the
city centre)
- There is a daily train service from/to St.
Petersburg and Moscow.
- There are daily ferry services from/to Estonia,
Sweden and Germany.
Transportation from the Airport
- Taxi - approximately € 30 (taxis accept credit
cards)
- Airport Taxi – approximately € 7-18 (depending on
the number of passengers in the taxi and the destination
address).
- Finnair bus – € 5,20 (winter 2007) runs every 20
minutes to the railway station in the centre of Helsinki
(journey time approximately 40 minutes).
- Local bus nr. 615 / 615T – € 3,8 (winter 2007) runs
every 15 minutes to the railway station in the centre of
Helsinki (journey time approximately 40 minutes).
Local Transportation
There is an efficient and well integrated public system
of trams, buses, local trains and metro within the city
centre and its surroundings. More information will be
provided when you have registered.
Visa (Entry into Finland)
Participants requiring an entrance visa to Finland should
contact the Finnish consulate at their home country at least
three months before their intended travel period in order to
arrange for visa to Finland. For more information, see Ministry of Foreign affairs website
Letters of Invitation
Individuals requiring an official letter of invitation in
order to obtain a visa and authorisation to attend the
conference should contact the conference secretariat. The
invitation does not obligate the conference financially in
any way. Expenses incurred are the sole responsibility of
the participant.
Climate
The Helsinki weather in September is normally around
+10ºC, but it can be anything from a cloudy +5°C to a sunny
